Massage Therapist psyches self up for Sweaty Betty patient

It’s 3.50pm on the first Thursday of the month. For local Remedial Massage Therapist, Effie Effleurage, that means one thing- “Sweaty Betty” is about to arrive for her monthly remedial massage.

The Good Health Tribune’s community reporter spoke with Ms Effleurage in a wide ranging interview as part of our “boots on the ground” healthcare reporting initiative. “Her real name is actually Karen… our receptionist dubbed her Sweaty Betty after she noticed how drenched the sheets and towels are every time she comes in” explained Ms Effleurage. “I think the medical term for excessive sweating is hyperhidrosis. It makes it tricky get the right skin friction but at least she isn’t smelly… Not like “Stinky Pete” the stinky tradie who always turns up unwashed after a long day on the construction site. We have to detox the whole room after a visit from old Pete!”
