Study: Compelling evidence no match for Practitioner’s beliefs
A new study has confirmed a strong inverse correlation between the strength of a practitioner’s belief in a therapeutic intervention, and the uptake of evidence that challenges said belief.
In a novel experiment, researchers asked Physiotherapists with fixed beliefs on the need to maintain a neutral lumbar spine during lifting tasks to consider the absence of evidence for straight back lifting while flogging a dead horse.
Interestingly, none of the fixed belief Physiotherapists avoided flexing their lumbar spines while flogging a dead horse.
