Outcome Of Dog Acupuncture Inconclusive
The effects of acupuncture on a dog are inconclusive according to a recent single case study. The patient, Fido Shmoopy, 3, was subjected to a round of acupuncture treatment to address an undisclosed ailment. There has been speculation that the patient’s chief complaint was headache, but this has been difficult to verify…Not only because the dog’s owner, Brittany Instabrooke, was reluctant to provide details, but also because, as a dog, it is questionable as to whether Fido has the capacity to verbalise a complaint such as headache.
The difficulties associated with identifying a chief complaint also appear to have hampered any meaningful analysis of this treatment trial. It is possible that the acupuncture treatment that Fido didn’t ask for, effectively relieved whatever ailment Fido didn’t know he was dealing with. However, it’s difficult to reach a firm conclusion because, Fido, being a dog, has not been able to provide feedback on how the treatment affected the problem he didn’t know he was suffering from.
Nevertheless, Ms Instabrooke was thrilled with the treatment. “My little fidey-widey-schmoopy-woopy was so brave! I’m taking him for a mani-pedi and ear candling. Then we might try the new brazilian-butt-lift for dogs place in double bay!”
