Bondi residents prove money doesn’t buy intelligence
As the Corona Virus pandemic continues to worsen, our Nation has by and large made a commendable effort to “flatten the curve” by adhering to advice to practice social distancing.
Just yesterday, Prime Minister Morrison ratcheted up social distancing guidelines, imploring Australians to maintain a personal boundary of 2x2metres, and ordering the cessation of crowd gatherings of more than 100 people.
The people of Bondi responded by amassing a 20,000 strong crowd of sunbakers and swimmers on Bondi Beach. The Good Health Tribune spoke with a 33 year old Bondi local. “We got told to work from home… so thought we’d take the chance to soak up a few rays. Might head to Ravesis later for a few beers and a perve… May as well make the most of it hey, haha”.
It’s unclear exactly what drove the collective decision of the Bondi community to thumb their noses at state and federal directives in the midst of a exponentially growing public health disaster. It could be argued that an archetypically Australian sense of “she’ll be right” was at play. Or perhaps it was a degree of wilful ignorance.
Whether it was the former or the latter, or some other factor, at the very least it seems clear that living in the wealthy post code of 2026 is not a correlate of either intelligence or common sense.
