Star Midfielder Ruled Out Of Play Offs With Grade III Psychosocial Sprain

The Nation’s Football fans have been devastated by the news that supremo Midfielder Yaans Kickalot will miss the remainder of the season with a sprained psychosocial. The sad news was announced by club Physiotherapist, Iman Operant, who made the diagnosis following last weekend’s across town away match.

“He will be out for at least 8 weeks”, lamented Mr Operant. “We initially hoped it was only a grade one strain. The scans actually showed that his bio was unscathed but there were definite signs of grade III fraying to both his psycho and social. It’s unfortunate, but hey- this is the big league. We have to deal with these setbacks as they occur”.

According to Mr Operant, in recent years, the acknowledgement of the important role of psychosocial variables within the musculoskeletal rehabilitation space has broadened the scope of clinicians’ assessment processes, and led to the development of novel, cutting edge treatment regimes.

“Oh yes we’re getting much better at treating the whole athlete within a BPS (biopsychosocial) framework. We used to ignore psychosocial factors altogether… those were the days”, said Mr Operant. “We used to simply tell the player what was wrong with him and order him to do x, y, z! But we all have to grow with the times. It’s crucial that we work within a BPS framework. What is really exciting however, is that we’ve been able to develop assessment and treatment systems that allow us to be as uselessly reductionist with psychosocial factors as we’ve traditionally been with bio factors. It’s great… it means we can practice in a BPS manner while also controlling everything and keep the patient in the dark”.
