Practitioner Navigates Offensive Small Talk From Objectionable Patient

“Oh yes… I see your point”, said Massage Therapist, Lucy Langlimbs in response to her patient’s thinly veiled xenophobic spiel on border protection policy. “I have to admit I’m not across the finer details on that particular issue”, offered Ms Langlimbs in a well practiced, diplomatic voice.

The diplomacy was lost on the patient, who proceeded to expound the imaginary benefits of an isolationist, strong man leader on a nation state in his best mansplaining tone. “The lefty snowflakes just don’t get it… but I see you Lisa, you’re a big boned, salt of the earth kinda gal, aren’t ya… I’m a good judge of character and I think we’re on the same page.”

Lisa, who we have already established is named Lucy, heroically suppressed an urge to vomit in disgust. “Err, yes I understand you’re perspective but oh gee, look at that, the clock is ticking… how about I turn the music up a bit while you flip onto your tummy and hide your face in the face hole. Let’s see if we can’t find that really really really painful spot we found in your upper trap last session when we were chatting about gender pay inequality”.
