Locals furious over closure of iconic Coogee to Bondi coastal walk
After a carrying out a risk assessment and carefully monitoring foot traffic, Waverley Council took the decision to close parts of the iconic Coogee to Bondi coastal walk to ensure adherence to the corona virus social distancing requirements. The decision was taken after large numbers of people continued to use the trail despite repeated calls to either stay at home or find alternative places to exercise.
The Good Health Tribune spoke with a local resident affected by the closure. “I find this infuriating. My modest seven bedroom pad backs onto Gordon’s Bay. The Coogee to Bondi walk is my backyard. Surely I can go for a walk in my own backyard”.
When our reporter put it to the resident that the coastal path was in fact council land upon which he had no particular right above or beyond other citizens, he replied “That’s neither here nor there. And in any case, I’m a wealthy partner in a large law firm and therefore exempt from societal rules. Social distancing is for Penrith Panthers fans and poor people from the western suburbs.
